February Members' Event: Finding Work

  • Print

This year we will continue to hold our meetings at CQ Functions, as they offer us excellent service and value. Owing to a rise in fees (for the first time in at least five years!), we’ve had to increase our ticket price; however, to minimise the increase, we’ve chosen a more casual, finger food format. We hope that you will take advantage of the opportunity to mingle with fellow editors, and enjoy the range of topics and presenters that we bring to you throughout the year.

22 February Meeting: Finding Work

Finger food and drinks followed by a panel discussion. For freelance editors and anyone who wishes to expand their work options or take on freelance work.

Finding and maintaining work and clients are some of the most challenging aspects of freelance editing. With this in mind, we have invited three of our members to discuss how they have tackled the search for work as a freelancer. All have extensive experience in editing and publishing. There will be time for your questions and further discussion.

Our panel members are:

Lorna Hendry: Lorna is a freelance editor, author and designer who also teaches editing at RMIT.

Lu Sexton: Lu is a freelance writer and editor with a background in performing arts, theatre and local government.

Sandra Duncanson: Sandra has recently begun a new role as a publisher at Wiley after freelancing as a writer, editor and educational consultant. She is also a sessional editing teacher at RMIT.

Our moderator is Margie Beilharz: Margie is a freelance editor, writer and science communicator, and is communication officer for Editors Victoria.

Location: CQ Functions, 113 Queen St, Melbourne, CQ Bar
