Etymology: The 'Word' of 2015


The Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year 2015 is ... for the first time ever ... an emoji. 

‘Face with Tears of Joy’ or ‘Crying with Laughter’ was chosen because it was the most used emoji globally in 2015.


Typo of the Month

This month we have not only a typo but also a solution, of sorts ...

As editors, we are often comparing ourselves with plumbers, saying ‘Why don’t we earn as much per hour as plumbers?’ To my mind this is an invidious comparison. If anything, we should be aiming for the same hourly rate as panelbeaters. What say you?
