AGM: Your Society Needs You!

Dear members,

We're looking forward to seeing you at our AGM on Thursday 13 August. As the society's membership is growing and our activities are expanding, we need new committee members more than ever. Some members of the current committee will retire at the AGM, so we need some new people willing to volunteer some time to Editors Victoria.

In return, you'll become part of an innovative, nimble team with a strong admin backup so you can make the best use of your knowledge and skills. You'll be able to implement lasting changes to our society's activities, and to flesh out your CV with valuable skills and experience.

There will be committee vacancies for the positions of events officer, communications officer and IPEd Accreditation Board delegate. We also need some volunteers, particularly for the events and communications subcommittees, to help those committee members with their portfolios.

The events officer and subcommittee members plan and arrange the very popular, regular dinner meetings (every one or two months) for members and others interested in hearing about diverse aspects of the editing profession, and publishing in general. The responsibilities include identifying interesting topics for talks and panels, finding and liaising with speakers and panel participants, and coordinating with the administration officer for venue booking and publishing the event details on the website and the event registration system.

The communications officer heads a subcommittee that looks after our social media (Twitter and Facebook), the newsletter and website. The newsletter editor is a member of the subcommittee. The role of the subcommittee includes keeping the website fresh with new and updated content.

The IPEd Accreditation Board delegate represents Editors Victoria on the Accreditation Board, which is responsible for IPEd's accreditation scheme and exams. The Board members meet regularly by teleconference and communicate regularly by email and Dropbox. The Board is currently developing an on-screen version of the accreditation exam that will be used in 2016.

Please seriously consider nominating for the committee or volunteering for a subcommittee. We are the largest society of editors in Australia and we are very proud of our history and our current activities - help us to keep actively promoting our profession and moving it forward.

I look forward to your enthusiastic response!

Jackey Coyle
President, Editors Victoria
