Redact is Back!

17-18 October 2015

Redact is a weekend intensive workshop specifically for editors of two or more years' experience, organised by Editors Victoria.

Redact will be held at the Bellinzona conference centre at Hepburn Springs with three streams:

  • Manuscript assessment (fiction and nonfiction)
  • Editing digital content
  • Supercharging your business.

We are super excited about our 2015 presenters!

Manuscript Assessment (Fiction and Nonfiction)

Nadine Davidoff is a freelance book editor and writing/editing teacher with over fifteen years trade publishing experience. She has worked as a senior editor at Random House and a commissioning editor at Black Inc. She was a founding editorial board member of The Monthly magazine and its fiction editor.

Nadine's clients include major publishing companies and literary agents for whom she undertakes manuscript assessment and development. Nadine also offers manuscript assessment services to established and first-time authors seeking editorial feedback before submitting their work to an agent or publisher.

Editing Digital Content

John Ryan, through his business Sitegeist, has provided content strategy to many well-known organisations including Coles, Medibank, World Vision, the ABC, Disney Australia and RMIT University. Before starting Sitegeist in 2007, John worked for Lonely Planet Publications in a variety of roles including online Managing Editor.

John was the founding film and humour editor for The Big Issue Australia magazine, and has worked as a feature columnist for The Age and the Melbourne Times. John has extensive experience in traditional book publishing, having worked for Melbourne University Press for over a decade in editorial, production and accounts.

Supercharging Your Business

Ilona Way is a dynamic business mentor, coach and entrepreneur who works across the spectrum of entrepreneurship and running her own small businesses. She offers a wide range of skills in marketing, analysis, coaching, communication, financial projections and leadership. She will introduce practical and visionary ideas for supercharging strategies.

This stream will look at getting more work and making more money - creating your own strategies to take your business to its fullest potential, whether you'd like to be micro or mega. It includes sessions on setting up your online presence, including an in-depth look at how to manage a social media presence.

This will be brilliant whether or not you have already taken our Dance Steps for the Self-Employed Editor course.

The Redact weekend is held in a residential setting with three streams of learning and approximately 10 registrants in each stream. The program consists of seven sessions interspersed with food breaks and with a Saturday night dinner.

Registrants stay overnight and must attend the dinner. Our presenters do also. This adds an important dimension of collegiality to the learning process over the weekend and creates wonderful opportunities for networking between registrants and our presenters.

Redact is a highly respected event in the training calendar for editors in Victoria and nationally.

More details will be available soon and registrations will open in July.
