Report: May Freelance Lunch

  • Print

The past several freelance lunches have been very well attended and so this latest lunch on 14 May was scheduled after two months instead of the usual three. There were fewer bookings this time and just 12 attendees, a pleasant and intimate gathering. Its timing the week after the national editors conference in Canberra (a very pleasant but not quite so intimate a gathering of our tribe) may have contributed to the smaller number and the next lunch will also be held after two months, on 15 July.

The Fitz Café in Brunswick Street has proved an excellent venue: welcoming our group whatever the size with an upmarket but comfortable atmosphere and a delicious menu of food, wine and coffee. Some vegetarian and vegan choices and even tea!

It is an always diverse group of editors of academic, trade, community, business and many other types of publications. Sitting at smaller tables of four or more, we chat amongst ourselves, covering a myriad of topics from editing issues to freelance business and even society and politics! Plenty of networking, discussion and informal mentoring takes place at these gatherings and the goldilocks mix of familiar and new faces is just right.

All are welcome to the next freelance lunch at The Fitz at 12.30pm on Wednesday 15 July. Bookings are now open and are henceforth to be made through the Editors Victoria Memnet member portal as an unpaid event. Bookings will close on Monday 13 July.
