President's Report

Roll on Easter! This is the perfect time to slow down, draw breath from a busy start to the year and glide into the change of season - fortified, of course, by chocolate.

Our next  dinner meeting on 16 April will be a beauty - our guest speakers are barrister-turned-author Jock Serong and Text senior editor Mandy Brett. They'll be giving us the lowdown on working together on Jock's debut novel Quota, a gritty thriller set in coastal Victoria that's garnered praise around the nation. Mandy is a sought-after speaker and trainer at Editors Victoria and the charismatic, articulate Jock blew the audience away at a writers weekend I attended last year - I can promise a great night. There will be no shortage of subject matter - from the journey through publication to Jock's life in law and his role as the editor of Great Ocean Quarterly.

Our new training program is well underway with trainers lined up, ready to roll. We're posting events on the website as they are confirmed, so you'll have some dates to plan your year.

Talking of professional development, I'm looking forward to attending some workshops at the national conference in May, as well as getting acquainted with some of our interstate peers.

Plans are unfolding for our 2015 Redact fix. We've been compiling a short survey to pinpoint the best training program - your participation is valued.

The IPEd transition process will reach another milestone later this month, with your feedback requested to fine-tune the final papers in readiness for voting in the second half of the year.

Our March Freelance Lunch almost took over the Fitz with a bumper attendance and plenty of food for the mind as well as the belly.

Until next month...
