2014 Christmas Party Wrap-up

As our thoughts turned to Christmas and taking some much needed time off, there was the crucial matter of completing Editors Victoria's social calendar with the annual, all-important Christmas party and trivia night, held at CQ Functions on 11 December.

It was a night charged with competitive spirit as about 50 editors descended on Melbourne's CBD, ready to do battle and fight for glory against their colleagues. Drinks and mingling were the first order of the evening, before everyone settled at their tables to tuck into a delicious buffet dinner and the end-of-year celebratory dessert.

Editors Victoria President Jackey Coyle started proceedings by awarding Stephanie Holt her IPEd accreditation certificate. Well done to Stephanie and all the newly accredited AEs.

With our bellies full, each table's participants commenced the first task of choosing their trivia name, which included clever offerings such as Merry Quizmas, Babble Baubles, The Quizzicals and Curious & Curiouser.

Then it was time to get serious. A hush fell over the room as the quizmaster, and events committee member, Carolyn commenced the first round of questions. Highlights included plenty of variation on the correct title of Richard Flanagan's The Narrow Road to the Deep North (The Bridge to the NorthThe Narrow North Road?), and the only football question received the answer, 'Who cares - the Swans guy?'

Round two kicked off with ten questions played out on the whiteboard. Drawing (in)expertly in a Pictionary-style game, artists Carolyn and Nicole even managed to work around their dodgy red and black pens to create some quality imagery for all to guess.

The winning team, Merry QuizmasBut, as round three ended, there could be only one winning team - Merry Quizmas - who walked away with a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine each. Even the runners-up received chocolates, and we had a sensational door prize containing chocolate, a copy of Editors in Conversation 2 and a copy of Marketing With Social Media by Linda Coles (courtesy of Wiley).

A very special thank you to everyone who kindly donated books for the Smith Family Appeal. We were blown away with so many thoughtful titles! The events team looks forward to seeing you all in 2015, where we have a great plan lined up for the year. Our next event will be on 11 February. Put it in your diary now!
