President's Report

As the year 2014 is drawing to a close it seems like we pedal madly up a hill of to-dos - jobs to finish and plans to place, things to do and presents to buy, people to see and others to remember. Among all this, I hope you're finding some space for a breather.

Here at Editors Victoria, the months since the AGM have been full and exciting, with committee members settling into their portfolios and new faces helping with training and the newsletter.

Our committee structure is made up of an executive committee across finances, communication, membership, freelance affairs, events and professional development, with sub-committees to cover newsletter, social media, web content, accreditation, mentorship and training. This is working well.

Our meetings buzz with ideas and discussions, and next year you'll see these continue to take shape in further developments across our services.

Thank you for helping us pinpoint your needs with your responses to surveys. Remember to join in our lively Facebook and Twitter discussions, too.

On our theme of connections, we're continuing to build bridges with other publishing organisations - Editors Victoria is an integral part of not only this City of Literature, but Australian publishing.

Some events to look forward to in the new year are the National Editors and Indexers Conference 2015 in Canberra in May and, later in the year, Redact and a celebration of our 45th birthday.

Thank you to Ann Philpott, who has stepped down from a long stint as Training Officer. Ann has put on many worthwhile courses and made a valuable network of training contacts.

Thank you to all our wonderful committee members across the year, to our hard-working staff officers and to you, our members.

See you at our Christmas dinner!

Stay in touch.
