Introduction

Welcome to your co-editors' final offering. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time as co-editors but, after the AGM, Lorna's focus will shift to building up Editors Victoria's social media presence and Kate will be concentrating on her busy freelance career (although she won't be far away if she's needed)!

Your committee is planning to contract a newsletter editor, drawing from our membership (why would we look any further, when there are such talented people in that pool?). Hopefully, that means that in the future you will be reading more in-depth discussion of issues in the world of editing than we have been able to provide. However, we will still need people to give editorial direction and source content. We encourage you to think about coming along to the AGM on 14 August and putting your hand up to be part of the committee.

In this issue, we bring you (as always) the wonderful Dear Ed. He seems to be in a bit of a slump at the moment and is contemplating the current state of freelance editing. 'The more things change, the more they stay the same.'

We also have a rundown of what we are calling 'The Great “Weird Al” Yankovic Debate'. If you don't know what that is yet, you're in for a treat. Plus, we welcome a special contribution to our Etymology column and Kate shows off some of her recent holiday snaps in an international edition of Typo of the Month.

Thanks for all the words.

Your eds,

Lorna Hendry and Kate Goldsworthy
