In this our first newsletter of the year, we'd like to welcome you into 2013 with warm wishes for a Happy New Year and hopes you have had an enjoyable break. Your editors did indeed, as promised, sit on the beach enjoying killer cocktails, one basking in the glory of hot summer sun, the other grumbling and swatting at flies and mosquitos and, occasionally, the other editor.

In more important news, the IPEd National Editors Conference is fast approaching and we encourage all interested editors who still haven't registered to do so. The early bird deadline has passed, but don't worry, you can still book. You can also download a conference app for your smart phone to keep up with all conference-related events.

For those of you working in the life sciences, we've received news from IPEd that the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences (BELS) offers a certification examination in conjunction with the Perth conference. The exam will take place on Tuesday 9 April 2013 in Fremantle. For more information, you can visit their website: http://www.bels.org.

Closer to home, the first lot of training courses will go online soon, so have a look at the events page on our website soon for more info. If you're keen on going to the dinner meeting this week (it's about editors who write!), you have until 5pm today to register. I for one am looking forward to an exciting Wednesday night, and I very much hope to see you there.
